You cannot make a competent Home Inspector by adding a lot of meaningless initials behind your name! A very popular TV show tells you how to choose a qualified Home Inspector. Mike Holmes puts it bluntly when he says look for a Home Inspector who has extensive knowledge in the building trades. Look for someone who has been a general contractor or tradesperson. and very importantly: Ask the Home Inspector for references. Phone and talk to those references. A Word of Caution: Do not choose your inspector by price alone. There are many inspectors out there who will charge as little as $195.00. They do less, they know less and they charge exactly what they are worth! A qualified inspector knows what he is worth and charges accordingly. This is a major expenditure, do not rely on a cheap inspector to assess the condition of your future home. Your Agent has probably provided you with three names, talk to them all and then make your choice.
